This coyness, lady, were no crime. 

We would sit down, and think which way 

To walk, and pass our long love’s day.

And you should, if you please, refuse

My vegetable love should grow 

Vaster than empires and more slow; 

An hundred years should go to praise 

Thine eyes, and on thy forehead gaze;

For, lady, you deserve this state, 

Nor would I love at lower rate.

Sits on thy skin like morning dew, 

And while thy willing soul transpires

Rather at once our time devour 

Than languish in his slow-chapped power.

Our sweetness up into one ball,

তবে তোমার এই লাজুকতা অপরাধের পর্যায়ে পড়ত না। 
আমরা একত্রে বসতাম এবং ভাবতাম কোন পথে যেতে হবে, 
আর আমরা অতিবাহিত করতাম আমাদের দীর্ঘ প্রেমের সময়টাকে। 
তুমি তখন ভারতের গঙ্গার তীরে 
রুবী পাথর খুঁজতে; আমি তখন 
হামবারের চরায় তোমার সম্পর্কে বিড়বিড় করে অভিযোগ করতাম। 
আমি বন্যার দশ বছর আগে থেকে তোমাকে ভালবাসতাম: 
আর যদি তুমি প্রত্যাখ্যান করতে

রাজাদের সাম্রাজ্যের চেয়ে বেশি প্রসারিত হত ধীর গতিতে। 
আর একশো বছর ধরে প্রশংসা করতাম 
তোমার চোখ দুটিকে এবং তাকিয়ে থাকতাম তোমার মুখের দিকে। 
দুশো বছর ধরে শ্রদ্ধা করতাম একেকটি স্তনকে: 
আর অবশিষ্ট অংশের জন্য থাকত ত্রিশ হাজার বছর। 
এক যুগ থাকত তোমার দেহের প্রতিটি অংশের জন্য, 
আর অন্তিম যুগটা দেখাত তোমার হৃদয়টাকে। 
প্রেয়সী, এই ধরনের প্রশংসা তুমি পাওয়ার যোগ্য। 
আমি তো এর থেকে কম মূল্যতেও তোমাকে ভালবাসতে পারতাম।

কিন্তু আমার পিছনে আমি সর্বদা শুনতে পাই 
সময় রথচক্রের ধ্বনি যেটা খুব দ্রুত এগিয়ে আসছে। 
আর ঐ দেখ আমাদের সামনে শায়িত রয়েছে 
শাশ্বত কালের মরুভূমি। 
তোমার সৌন্দর্য আর বেশিক্ষণ দেখা যাবে না; 
তোমার মার্বেল খোচিত সমাধিস্থল শুনতে পাবে না 
আমার ভালবাসার গান; তখন জীবাণুরা চেষ্টা করবে 
তোমার দীর্ঘ দিনের রক্ষিত কুমারীত্বকে বিনাশ করতে। 
আর তোমার সতীত্ব ধুলোয় পর্যবসিত হবে 
এবং ছাইয়ে পরিণত হবে আমার সমস্ত কামনা বাসনা। 
সমাধিস্থল একটি সুন্দর ও ব্যক্তিগত জায়গা 
কিন্তু আমি মনে করি সেখানে কেউ আলিঙ্গন করে না। 

এইজন্য এখন, যখন ভরা যৌবনের সতেজ রং 
তোমার ত্বকের উপর বসে আছে প্রভাতের শিশিরের মতো; 
আর যখন তোমার ইচ্ছুক আত্মার প্রকাশ ঘটেছে 
উষ্ম কামুক ইচ্ছার ত্বকের প্রতিটি ছিদ্রের মধ্য দিয়ে, 
তখন খেলা করা যাক যতক্ষণ আমরা এটা করতে পারি 
আর এখন ভালবাসার আনন্দ উপভোগ করি ঈগলের শিকারের মতো 
অন্যথায় একসময়, সময় আমাদের গ্রাস করবে; 
সময়ের শক্তির কাছে অবসন্ন ও পরাভূত হওয়ার চেয়ে 
চলো আমরা একত্রিত করি আমাদের সমস্ত শক্তিকে, এবং 
আমাদের সমস্ত মিষ্টতাকে একটি বলের মধ্যে। 
আমাদের আনন্দকে কঠিন সংঘাতের মধ্যে ভাগ করি 
লৌহসম জীবনের দ্বার প্রান্তের মধ্য দিয়ে। 
যাইহোক যদিও আমরা আমাদের সূর্যকে ধরে রাখতে পারব না 
কমপক্ষে আমরা তাকে উপভোগ করতে পারব।
