BIO - SKETCH / BIOGRAPHY


Biography is an account of someone's life written by someone else and it is considered as a literary genre. In a biography there would be information about the eminent person’s –name, residence, childhood days, primary education, higher education, occupation, activities in life, works for which he/she is famous for, awards, achievements  and other important details and if dead date and place of death. Necessary hints will be supplied to you and you have to write the biography/bio-sketch following the points. Write in simple past tense and in a single paragraph. Rich adjectives, adverbs, necessary phrases, phrasal verbs and idioms  should be used.  Do not add anything which is not in the given points. Write within 90 -120 words.

                                                                     MAHATMA GANDHI

Hints : Introduction – born in Gujrat on 2nd October 1869 – truthful – studied in England – practiced in South Africa – back in India in 1919 – fought for freedom – became leader – led mass movements – jailed several times – India freed in 1947  - ideal non-violent – lived simple – close to masses –called  Mahatma by Rabindranath  - shot dead in 1948.

 

      No other patriot and freedom fighter has achieved such an endearing niche in the heart of the people like Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, the Father of the Nation. He was born on 2nd October 1869 in Gujrat. He was much truthful. He studied in England but practiced in South Africa. He returned back to India to fight for Indian freedom. Then he became the leader and the mass movements and shaped the tide of the tide of the movement.  He was put to jail for several times by the British government and  India won freedom on 15th August 1947. He believed in non- violence. Moreover, he lived a very simple life and was very close to masses. He was called ‘Mahatma’ by Rabindranath Tagore. Unfortunately, he was shot dead in 1948. 4.SISTER NIVEDITA
Margaret Nobel-born in Ireland on 28 Oct, 1867-religious from childhood-took to teaching in
1884-dedicated to the cause of the poor-shocked at her friend's death-met Vivekananda in
1895-came to India in 1898-named Nivedita-dedicated for the distressed-fought for India's
freedom movement-died in 1911.

8. DONALD BRADMAN
Born in New South Wales (August 27, 1908)-First appeared against New South Wales, scored a
century (118)-highest innings in Australia : 452 not out against South Australia in 1927/28-
started career as a leading cricketer, captained Australia in 1936-national selector in 1938-the
only Australian cricketer to be Knighted-published autobiography, 'Farewell to Cricket' in 1950-
became chairman of Australian Cricket Board in 1960-scored 29 centuries, 13 half centuries, 699 runs and average 99.94 Test Cricket-died Feb, 2001.

9.CHARLIE CHAPLIN
